Distante a 180 kilómetros de la ciudad de Coyhaique, Bahía Murta se caracteriza por su envidiable ubicación en medio de un valle rodeado de montañas, ríos, y por disponerse justo en la mitad entre las orillas del lago General Carrera y la desembocadura del río Murta.
La principal actividad económica del pueblo es la ganadería, aunque en los últimos años ha ganado terreno el turismo.
Sus no más de 250 habitantes se han dedicado a implementar el pueblo con servicios básicos como un aeródromo, hospedajes, gasolinera, restoranes, un muelle y pequeñas empresas locales que realizan excursiones y recorridos en lancha.
Entre las actividades que se pueden realizar en los alrededores de Bahía Murta destacan la pesca deportiva, trekking, paseos en bote, excursiones y kayak, entre otros.
Distant 180 kilometers from the city of Coyhaique, Bahía Murta is known for its enviable location in a valley surrounded by mountains, rivers, and available right in the middle between the shores of Lake General Carrera and the mouth of the River Murta.
The main economic activity of the town is livestock, although in recent years tourism has been gaining ground.
Its no more than 250 people have been dedicated to implementing the people with basic services such as an airport, lodging, gas station, restaurants, a pier and small local companies that conduct tours and boat tours.
Among the activities that can be performed in the vicinity of Bahia Murta include fishing, hiking, boating, hiking and kayaking, among others.

VI Fiesta del Arreo
Explora Murta es un evento deportivo recreativo, que se raliza el ultimo fin de semana de enero de cada año; idea de unos integrantes de la Agrupación de Turismo, Deporte y Cultura "Calafates" de Bahía Murta, con la finalidad de dar a conocer la increible experiencia que es visitar Bahía Murta y Puerto Sánchez. Evento que lleva realizándose por dos años, en la primera versión (31 enero y 01 febrero 2015) participaron 5 personas, el segundo año (29, 30 y 31 enero 2016) gracias a la publicidad y recomendación de nuestro evento fueron 25 los que participaron. Para este año ya llevamos mas de 40 pre inscripciones.
Explora Murta se lleva a cabo en dos días, dedicando el primero a un Triatlón que implica Mountain Bike (MTB), Running y Kayak, partiendo desde Puerto Sánchez en bicicleta hasta Bahía Murta (24k), punto donde pasan de pedalear a correr por la Senda el Rodado, hasta alcanzar el puente Murta 2 ( 18k) para abordar los kayaks y remar (20k) de regreso por el Río Murta hasta el Lago General Carrera pasando frente a la desembocadura de los ríos El Engaño, Murta y Resbalón hasta la meta en la Piedra Inglesa en Bahía Murta. Ahí se recibe a los competidores con la merecida festividad, entrega de premios, música regional, artesanías, productos locales, juegos y asados al palo.
El segundo día se realiza un descenso recreativo o de contemplación por los ríos Muerto y Murta, culminando dicha actividad en el mismo punto de encuentro que es la Piedra Inglesa, lugar que se ha transformado en el sitio tradicional de festividades locales que involucran actividades lacustres.

Explora Murta is a recreational sports event, which is held on the last weekend of January of each year; Idea of some members of the Association of Tourism, Sport and Culture "Calafates" of Bahía Murta, with the purpose of giving to know the incredible experience that is to visit Bhaía Murta and Puerto Sánchez. In the first version (31 January and 1 February 2015), there were 5 participants, the second year (29, 30 and 31 January 2016), thanks to the publicity and recommendation of our event, 25 participants participated . The second day is a recreational or contemplative descent by the rivers Muerto and Murta, culminating this activity in the same meeting point that is the English Stone, a place that has become the traditional site of local festivities involving lake activities.
