Bahía Murta se encuentra en la Comuna de Río Ibáñez, Región de Aysén.
Distante a 180 kilómetros de la ciudad de Coyhaique, Bahia Murta se caracteriza por su envidiable ubicación en medio de un valle rodeado de montañas, ríos, y por disponerse justo en la mitad entre las orillas del Lago General Carrera y la desembocadura del Río Murta y el Río Engaño.
La principal actividad económica del pueblo es la ganadería, aunque en los últimos años ha ganado terreno el turismo, sus no más de 250 habitantes, se han dedicado a implementar el pueblo con servicios básicos como un aeródromo, hospedajes, gasolinera, restaurantes, un muelle y pequeñas empresas locales que realizan excursiones, cabalgatas y recorridos en lancha.
Entre las actividades que se pueden realizar en lo alrededores de Bahía Murta se destaca la pesca deportiva, trekking, paseos en bote, excursiones, kayak, entre otros.
La flora presente en la zona se caracteriza por especies arboleas como el ñirre, el coihue y la lenga.
